1926 – The Beginning
Clinton Engineering Company is established in Clinton, Iowa, evolving from earlier construction roots as Ladi Hoff and Mellor Construction. From the start, the company is grounded in hard work, practical problem-solving, and building for the community.
1920s–1960s – Growth & Early Identity
The company operates from downtown Clinton before eventually relocating to North 2nd Street. While not a traditional engineering firm, internal engineering expertise supports structural design, formwork, utilities, and project execution across early work.
1960s–1970s – A Shift in Focus
As competition grows in the region, Clinton Engineering pivots away from vertical construction and focuses on core strengths:
- Concrete paving
- Underground utilities
- Municipal and industrial work
1970s–1980s – Industry Change & Transition
The company navigates major changes in construction, including evolving safety standards and insurance requirements. During this time, Clinton Engineering also moves away from union operations and continues refining its industrial focus.
1984 – A Unique Chapter
Outside of construction, company leadership and family connections help launch Big Foot Decoys, which grows into a nationally recognized brand—reflecting the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit connected to the Clinton Engineering legacy.
1988 – New Ownership & Leadership Era
Vern Rosenberry acquires Clinton Engineering. Leadership transitions and the company continues building its reputation in industrial construction, underground utilities, and concrete work across the region.
Late 1980s–1990s – Challenges & Resilience
The company faces a critical insurance crisis that nearly halts operations, but is able to continue through the State of Iowa insurance pool program. Despite challenges, Clinton Engineering strengthens its foundation through key industrial clients and long-term partnerships.
2000 – Transition to McCarthy-Bush Corporation
Clinton Engineering, along with Foley Construction, becomes part of McCarthy-Bush Corporation. The company continues to evolve while maintaining its core strengths in industrial and infrastructure work.
2000s–Present – Projects & Progress
Clinton Engineering delivers impactful work across the region, including riverfront improvements, industrial site work, structural concrete, and infrastructure projects that continue to serve communities today.
Today – The Focus on People & Purpose
